DAYTON (WDTN) - Matthew Callahan was arrested at his Dayton apartment Tuesday morning on charges of  rape, public indecency, importuning, and gross sexual imposition.

"He didn't have much to say," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Nathan Lupica. "I think he mentioned he knew it was coming on the way down to Montgomery County Jail. He didn't say anything really, it seemed like he knew the charges were coming".

Lupica and the U.S. Marshal's So-Fast Task Force found Callahan at this Notre Dame Avenue apartment.

Dayton Police asked for help capturing Callahan, after the victim's mother went to investigators with evidence the abuse had occurred.

Authorities believe the abuse happened multiple times over a 2 year period, starting when the girl was just 10 years old.

Callahan's current neighbors, most of whom have young children, tell 2 NEWS they had no idea and are scared that he was living so close.

"I guess start being more nosey," one neighbor suggested to others. "The people who are quiet and leave you alone, maybe there's a reason".

"You have someone out there who has this tendency to basically victimize young children, adolescents, these are the type of people we work really hard to keep off the streets and the kids in this community safe," said Detective Jerome Dix with the Dayton Police Department.

Callahan is being held without bond and is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday morning.
