City leaders pushing to curb violence

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - On the heels of the recent gun violence in Colorado and Connecticut, Dayton city leaders will hear today if steps they've taken have been successful.

At the weekly Dayton City Commission meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2 News anticipates Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl will address the on-going gun violence problem by updating commissioners on a program he instituted four years ago.

We also anticipate part of Chief Biehl's presentation at City Hall will include results of a Wright State University study that looked at the city's efforts to curb group violence.

A big part of that effort was instituting The Community Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence program that brought the community and law enforcement agencies in the cities of Dayton, and Trotwood, plus Montgomery County, to dramatically reduce the occurrence of group-related gun violence.

CIRGV (or serve) is intervening in these circles of violence through an approach already successful in Boston, Cincinnati and other cities.
