DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A new program offers a new way for veterans to start a new career.
Senator Sherrod brown visited the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission in Dayton Sunday to discuss the details of the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program and to encourage vets to apply.
The program is geared toward older veterans who make up half of all unemployed veterans and who have aged-out of the GI Bill.
The program is accepting applicants ages 35 through 60 until Sept. 30 or until 45,000 veterans have enrolled. So far, 36,000 vets have signed up so space is limited.
Veterans must attend one of a list of approved schools and must meet special requirements.
For more information, and to apply for the program, visit the VA's eBenefits page .
The Purple Passion 5K run/walk was held at Shawnee Park Saturday afternoon.
