DP&L continues work to restore power

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Miami Valley residents without power may have to wait days for their power to be restored, Dayton Power & Light reported.

As of 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, DP&L reported only 1,400 customers were without power as a result of this weekend's storms.

DP&L reports it reached it's goal of  95 percent restoration two days early. The utility now says it will have 98 percent of the 175,000 of customers impacted by Friday's storms back online by Tuesday night. Baring any additional weather, all customers should have power by Thursday night.

Outage Information

The utility announced its crew of 1,520 people would begin focusing on outages affecting fewer than 10 customers and what they call "challenging single outages."

Sunday night’s storms created more outages for crews to deal with. Currently, DP&L has 1400 people in the field working to restore power. Out-of town mutual assistance crews are here from Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma.

With temperatures forecast to climb into the mid-90’s this week, DP&L is assisting customers by providing free ice. You can find a list of locations with free ice here .

Extensive damage from Friday's storms left millions without power in a swath from Indiana to the east coast.

The winds gusting in excess of 70 MPH knocked down power lines and left trees tangled in wires, causing what DP&L describes as “extensive damage”

“All available resources are being activated, including crews from out of town. Due to the amount of damage, we believe that the restoration will take multiple days. As we can make restoration estimates, we will keep the news media and governmental leaders informed,” the utility said in a statement.

DP&L crews will first work to restore resolve emergency situations such as fallen lines and electrical fires. They will then work to restore power to critical services and infrastructure such as hospitals, police and fire stations.

You should always treat wires on the ground as if they are live and stay away from them. You can report a fallen line to DP&L by calling 1-877-468-8243.

DP&L has over 500,000 customers in 24 counties.
