DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - While many people wanted a White Christmas it looks like the snow is arriving one day too late. A major winter storm is set to head into the Miami Valley on Wednesday.
There is now a Winter Storm Warning in effect for the entire viewing area from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday. Heavy wet snow along with a mix of sleet and freezing rain is possible.
Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Tara Hastings says "This storm will bring heavy snow north of Dayton but parts of Montgomery county and areas southward will see a rain/snow mix."
"Not only will the Miami Valley get heavy snow some sleet and rain but we'll also see wind gusts near 30 m.p.h. which means blowing and drifting of the snow. I would avoid traveling on Wednesday all together," said Meteorologist Tara Hastings.
The snow will be a heavy and wet with areas north of Dayton seeing the most amount. There will be a sharp cutoff in snowfall amounts depending on how far north the rain/snow line moves. Wayne County Indiana through northern Miami County and areas north will see all snow and therefore more accumulation. Montgomery County has the potential to see some rain or sleet mixing which means snowfall amounts will be a little less. However no matter the amount of snow everyone will need to use the shovel or snow scraper throughout the day.
