DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton police and firefighters spent several hours pulling items from a home believed to be used as a meth lab early Tuesday morning.

The discovery was made around 6 a.m. at 2717 Martel Drive between Patterson Road and Bellaire Avenue.

Firefighters responded after a passerby called and said they smelled an odor and saw smoke coming from the garage.

The Narcotics bureau with the Dayton police department was called in to investigate.  Their arrival and investigation uncovered the suspected lab.  Investigators said they found materials used to make meth in both the garage and basement of the house.

According to police, eight people were inside the home at the time of the bust.  Four of the people were arrested on previous warrants including Leatrice Humphrey, 22, Shane Kintz, 35, Patricia Agee, 56, and Colin Hansford, 34.  Hansford is also charged with drug possession.

The homeowners were not among those who were arrested, but were served a nuisance abatement.  According to police, the city of Dayton has the right to evict persons from their home if/when felony drugs are found on their property.  Police said the homeowners can appeal to the housing department.

The investigation is on-going.

No injuries were reported.
