Piqua bank robbery suspect caught in Huber Heights

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) - The man suspected of robbing a Piqua bank made his first appearance in court since being caught.
Eric W. Smith, 32, of Piqua appeared in Miami County Municipal Wednesday morning.
The judge set his bond at $250,000. Smith did not enter a plea.
Smith was arrested Tuesday night in Huber Heights just hours after he's accused of robbing the MainSource Bank on West High Street in Piqua.
The SWAT team surrounded the America's Best Value Inn on Brandt Pike at Interstate 70 around 9:30 pm. He was taken into custody along with another woman who officers do not think is connected to the bank robbery.
Police said Smith passed a note to a teller, then fled the bank on foot.
