RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) - The Air Force Band of Flight performed its annual Patriot Day show Tuesday evening, but it had special meaning.
The performance paid special tribute to the victims and heroes of the 9/11 attacks.
The band was joined onstage by the Dayton Philharmonic.
"A range of emotions, from heartache to resolve will be explored in this year's program," said Becky Taylor, publicist for the Band of Flight.
Highlights of the program include a selection that pays tribute to the victims onboard United Airlines Flight 93 titled "A Field in Pennsylvania" by Nancy Bloomer Duessen.
"Dayton is lucky to have two such top-drawer professional musical ensembles. The mix of rousing patriotic music plus elegiac and contemplative music to honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, makes for a deeply moving and inspiring experience for everyone," said Neal Gittleman, Dayton Philharmonic music director and principal conductor.
The performance was held at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
The musicians played in front of a sold-out crowd.
