HARRISON TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - One person is dead after a driver travels the wrong way on the Interstate causing several crashes.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers received a report that a driver was traveling the wrong way on I-75 near the Wagner Ford Exit.

Officials said an 18-year-old driver got on the highway and started driving north in the southbound lanes.

In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, oncoming traffic was forced to swerve to dodge the wrong-way driver.

The teen driver slammed into a vehicle, pushing it into a van, while also causing another accident.

A car and semi collided trying to avoid the accident. The car was pinned underneath the semi truck, trapping the passenger and sparking a fire.

The passenger was consumed by the flames and pronounced dead at the scene.

Five people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including the 18-year-old driver.

Troopers said alcohol likely played a role in the crash.

Officials are awaiting toxicology reports.

According to authorities, the driver could face a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.
