DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Ohio's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force is now activated to help with Hurricane Sandy.
Task force leader, Scott Hall, told 2 NEWS that his team loaded up Monday night in Kettering, ready to take action.
He says his crew will head to Akron Monday night then will travel to Connecticut Tuesday morning and wait for further instructions as to where the team will go in the storm zone.
Hall says the unique quality of Sandy has his team preparing differently from the clothing they wear to the gear they will take with them. The search and recovery team has the training to search damaged buildings for survivors of disasters. Exactly where on the east coast the team will be assigned was still not decided Monday night.
The Dayton chapter of the American Red Cross also has crews activated to assist the victims along the east coast.
Seven volunteers and two emergency response vehicles are already in New Jersey to set up shelters and provide victims with food and clothing.
