WILMINGTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The National Weather Service needs some help promoting severe weather awareness and it's calling on students to do it.
Any Ohio student in grades 1 through 6 can participate in the 2013 Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest.
The state has experienced extreme weather this past year, including a derecho, a super storm with hurricane force winds and record-breaking winter.
Miami Valley has a lot to inspire you. Our area is no stranger to snow, but also tornadoes, flooding and extreme heat and cold. They are all important topics that teachers and parents should teach their children.
The National Weather Service says the poster contest is a great way to get kids to start thinking about about safety.
The deadline to send in your submission is April 16. Winners will be notified by the end of May.
