DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - More than 40 of the 56 cremated remains discovered in a Philadelphia Drive home last week remain unclaimed.
Dellaina Grundy of Jefferson Township is one of 14 families who have now claimed the cremated remains of their loved one.
Her father, Leroy Metcalfe, lost his battle with cancer in April 2002. She and her family had Leroy cremated and then buried his remains at Dayton VA National Cemetery, only to recently find it wasn't really him.
Since the devastating discovery, Grundy said she has been consumed by the question of whose remains are in her father's urn. Officials at the cemetery told her no one will ever know. When the urn was re-opened officials said there wasn't an identification tag in the ashes.
"It was devastating to find out," said Grundy. "I was hoping this whole past week they just made a horrible mistake and it really was my father's ashes in the urn, but it wasn't. Now, we will never know whose ashes were in the urn."
The home where the remains were found last month was partially owned by the former owner of the McLin Funeral Home Scherrie McLin.
Its still unclear if any charges will be filed in this particular case.
Developers and proponents of the racino say the project will bring with it 1,000…
