Mother sentenced in connection to her baby's death

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A mother was sentenced Tuesday for her part in the death of her own child.

Michelle Mooty was sentenced to 12 years in prison in connection to the death of her 2-year-old son. Levi Barrett died in December of 2011. The coroner ruled his death a homicide, by blunt force trauma.

Barrett was killed by Mooty's boyfriend, Joe Watson. Watson is serving 15-years to life in prison for the murder.

Mooty was convicted of permitting child abuse, complicity to commit assault, and endangering children.

Prosecutors said she not only knew Barrett was being hurt at the hands Watson - she continued to leave him in Watson's care.
