DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton woman was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday for contributing to her son's death in 2009.
25-year-old Amber Gipson's six-month-old son Braiden was found dead in a laundry basket beside a bed in which Gipson was sleeping on July 29, 2009. Toxicology tests found cocaine in the blood system of both Gipson and her son. The coroner ruled the cause of the baby's death was positional asphyxia.
Gipson was convicted on September 4 on one count of involuntary manslaughter and one county of child endangering.
"This mother utterly failed to protect her child from harm. Parents have a responsibility to care for their children and can not do that when they are high on cocaine, as this mother was," said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.
Alex Lovett's family says it's a miracle he survived this deadly car crash.
