MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) - Graffiti covers the concrete at the Miamisburg skatepark. It's closed until further notice.
"The graffiti that we have at this point in time is very extensive and resistant to any of the graffiti removers that we have and are aware of," explains Miamisburg Parks and Recreation Director Debbie McLaughlin.
Because of that, it could be weeks before the park reopens. As park officials search for a way to remove it, a sign warns park-goers that vandalism and graffiti are not acceptable. Those responsible could face criminal charges.
"If anybody knows anyone involved in this one, hold them responsible and then find out what type of product was used so we can then try to get it off our facility," says McLaughlin.
Jamie Risner brings her kids to the park at least once a week. She says the tagging is upsetting not only as a taxpayer but as a parent.
"I think that's really sad because it gives kids something to do around here," comments Risner.
She says she will continue to bring her kids to the park as long as it doesn't lead to more serious crimes.
"That's awful to think about. We love coming here," explains Risner.
Park officials apologize to parents like Risner and hope to have the skatepark cleaned up as soon as possible.
"It is the acts of a few that are taking away the recreation opportunities for the majority. However, we are upholding our standards for a quality facility that we want everyone to enjoy," says McLaughlin.
If you have any information about who is responsible for the graffiti here at the skatepark, call Miamisburg Police.
