Man sentenced in fatal crash

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Montgomery County judge sentenced Timothy Hill, 26, to four years in prison Thursday on aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges.

Hill was convicted following a fatal head-on crash in June 2011 that killed Helen Dodson, 84, and severely injured Elizabeth Wall.  Officials said Hill was under the influence of drugs when he collided with the two women on Clyo Road in Washington Township.  Hill had been pulled over by police approximately 45 minutes before the crash for his reported erratic driving; however, officers allowed him to proceed driving home.

"While it does not in any way excuse his behavior, it was certainly a circumstance that contributed to this tragic result," said the judge prior to sentencing.

The judge ordered Hill serve a mandatory three year sentence in Dodson's death.  Hill also received one year for injuries Wall sustained in the crash, to be served consecutively with the aggravated vehicular homicide charge.  However, the judge determined Hill has already served that time due to jail credit.

Hill apologized to the victims and their families prior to sentencing. 

I'm truly sorry for the unimaginable pain and grief that I've caused both to you and your loved ones," Hill said to Wall and her family.  "I know my remorse will never compare with what your family will continue to experience," he continued to Dodson's family."
