DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Family and friends gathered to remember a Dayton man who police said jumped to his death one year ago on July 16, 2011.

Kylen English, 20, died after falling off the Salem Avenue bridge in Dayton.

He was in police custody after investigators said he attempted to break into a home.  English was taken to the Montgomery County Jail where officials said he intentionally slammed his head into a wall.

English was then taken to Grandview Medical Center where he was treated and released back into the custody of Dayton police.  While en route to the jail, police said English smashed his head through a window of the police cruiser, escaped and jumped off the Salem Avenue bridge to his death.

On Sunday, one year after his death, those who knew English gathered at the bridge for prayer.

"We don't want anyone to forget Kylen," said Angela Harris, who is a cousin of Kylen.  "We have so many unanswered questions in his death."

A lawsuit was filed against the city of Dayton, Grandview Medical Center and a Dayton police officer.  It claimed the defendants were negligent in the Kylen English's death.

The FBI launched an independent investigation.

Officials and citizens alike are waiting on the findings of its investigation from the Department of Justice.
