Parents voice fears in sending kids back to school

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Its Sunday evening and Brandi Wagner is busy folding her daughter's school uniforms, checking their agendas and packing up their backpacks for school Monday morning. 

"But this week is different," she said. 

Brandi can't help but think of the terrible tragedy that unfolded at Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday and how she herself is about to take her own children back to school Monday. 

"Its scary and they are helpless and not being there to protect them would be heartbreaking," said Wagner. 

Wager has two daughters, ages 6 and 10, who attend Emerson Academy in Dayton. 

"The majority of the children killed were my youngest daughter's age," said Wagner.  "I don't want my daughters to be scared to go to school.  I explained what happened to those children in CT, but in a way that a child should be told."

On Friday, Wagner said she talked with school officials about safety precautions that are in place at her daughter's school.

"The only way anyone can enter the school is through the front office, and that is if they are allowed in to the building," said Wagner.  "It makes me feel more at ease, but as we unfortunately saw at Sandy Hook, danger still exists.  All I can do it hope for the best, keep positive thoughts and be there when the doors open at 3:45 in the afternoon to pick them up and bring them home."
