DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - "It's like having him die all over again. It's horrible. It's just like it was yesterday," says Randal Richter's niece, Sharon Osborne.
It's the second time in five years that the family of murdered Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Randal Richter is fighting to keep his killer locked up.
"He responded to help a citizen and help our community and he paid the ultimate price for that," comments Leon Daidone with the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
Deputy Richter was investigating a suspicious vehicle call on Grant Avenue in May 1975 when he was shot point-blank in the face by Donald Green.
Green spent the last 37 years behind bars, after pleading guilty to aggravated murder in order to avoid the death penalty. Now, 65, Green is up for parole again.
"It's not about justice. I've forgiven him for what he's done. The family's forgiven him but he killed a cop. He murdered him. I mean he executed him. We just don't want him to get out and do it again," explains Osborne.
And the family is asking you to write to the parole board and tell them not to let the cop killer out of prison.
"The bottom line is he doesn't value life and if he didn't value it 37 years ago, why would he value it after 37 years in prison? So, I think the community needs to stand up and the community needs to let the parole board know that cop killers should not get out," says Osborne.
The parole board is expected to make a decision by the end of November, so the family asks that you to send your letters as soon as possible.
