DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The price at the pump has hit many people hard. That's why Champions for Change is organizing a gas blackout in hopes of putting pressure on big oil companies.
"The purpose is to bring closure to the gas prices that seem outrageous," says Ray Hollingsworth.
The "semi-boycott" as the group calls it, will take place from September 23rd to September 30th.
"Two or three days are not going to get it so we need to for one week only buy up to a half a tank of gas," explains Hollingsworth.
One gas station owner tells 2 News he only makes about 7 cents on every gallon and this gas blackout would end up hurting the local businesses.
Some drivers say they already try to limit their trips and they don't know how much of an impact it will make.
"I appreciate his efforts but I think because it's such a huge industry it would take a such a mass involvement and following to get something like that to be really successful. But, even if you can make a difference in your own community;I think that's great and I totally support it," comments Christina Kalnicki.
The group is asking people to come to an informational meeting about the gas blackout Thursday night at 6 Courthouse Square.
