CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The third annual Jason Kirby Memorial Golf Outing brought out family, friends and golfers Friday evening.
The event is named for Jason Kirby, husband, father of two, son, brother, firefighter, youth coach, community supporter and good friend, who passed away unexpectedly at age 37 on December 9, 2009.
For 18 years, Jason was a member of the Washington Twp. FD serving as a part-paid volunteer firefighter and EMT. He was an active member and officer of the Washington Twp. Firefighters Association, serving many years as the coordinator of the Ice Cream Social and the annual Appreciation Dinner
For the last five years of his life, Jason had been actively involved in coaching Wee Elks Football and Youth Wrestling and had just accepted the position as President for Centerville’s Youth Wrestling for the 2010-2011 season.
Jason served on the Wee Elks Board and ardently helped in fund raising for the Wee Elks so that all children could afford and were given the opportunity to play sports.
The golf outing was held at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville. There was also a raffle and items for bid in a silent auction.
Our own Jim Bucher served as emcee for the evening.
Proceeds will benefit those children in the South Dayton Community who cannot afford to pay the required fees involving sports and to financially aid students in Fire, EMS and Paramedic training and education at Sinclair College.
Thousands of dollars have been raised so far.
