#GivingTuesday encourages charity tradition

Targeted @younger donors

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - We have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and now #GivingTuesday.

Unlike the other traditions that focus on shopping, this tradition urges you to give more of yourself.

It's for any cause, any charity near and dear to your heart. Organizers want you to act today and then share your good deed on social media to encourage others.

Organizers tell us the average age of the American donor is 65 so they incorporated the social media aspect of the campaign to encourage younger donors to get involved.

That's also why there's a Twitter hash tag in the title and why everything can be done online.

The effort has the backing of heavy hitters in philanthropy and about 2,500 other organizations like  Dayton Children's Medical Center.

All funds raised on Giving Tuesday by Dayton Children's will be used for the pediatric cancer and blood disorders endowment fund.

Visit the Dayton Children's website at www.childrensdayton.org/donate , Facebook or YouTube page to see how you can participate.

Organizers don't expect any official figures on how the first '#givingtuesday' goes, they're just hoping it becomes another holiday tradition.
