Girl Scouts honor 18 local women

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - 18 women were honored Tuesday for their leadership and service to the Girl Scouts of America.

The special awards ceremony was held at Sinclair Community College.

Two women were honored as the 2012 Woman of Leadership.  They are Sharon Merryman, D.O. of the Dayton Center for Neurological Disorders and Julie Sutton of the Air Force Materiel Command Headquarters.

The other sixteen received Century of Service Awards.

The Girl Scouts of America is celebrating it's 100th anniversary

Organizers wanted to honor women who make a difference in the Dayton area and who also serve as role models for girls.

Leaders say their mission is to give girls courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.
