Free cab rides St. Patty's weekend

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Just around the corner is St. Patrick's Day so on a corner in Dayton Thursday Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck again made his pitch for the Arrive Safe program. The program gives people who have had too much to drink the option of a free cab ride.

David Boston, owner of Boston's Bistro where police gathered today to promote Arrive Safe, is a partner in the program.

Boston said, "I feel as though this is the safest thing we can put out in front of everybody and let them be a part of it and be safer, the people that are driving and the people on the streets."

Heidelberg Distributing Company,  AAA Miami Valley, Dublin Pub, Flanagan's, and Crowne Plaza are also partners in Arrive Safe. Rides will be available from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday throughout Montgomery County.  The number is 937-449-9999.

Last year during the 24 hours of St. Patrick's Day five out of six traffic fatalities in Ohio were related to drinking while intoxicated.

Mat Heck: said, "When we get the individual who has multiple DUIs, who's not taking advantage of any of the programs, has not heeded the advice of the municipal courts and it gets to us in common pleas we ask they be sent to the penitentiary. But we don't want to do that. We want people to be responsible. That's all we're asking.
