DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - When Forrest was brought to the Humane Society, officials feared the worst for the young pup.

Thanks to a loving foster family and help from the community, the dog is ready to be adopted.

Forrest, a 2-3 year old Dachshund, was brought to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Officials thought he had been hit by a car, but x-rays revealed a blown disc in his back. His lower legs are permanently paralyzed.

Dorothy Crafton agreed to foster the dog. "He couldn't get around. I had to carry him outside, carry him anywhere in the house," said Crafton.

The Humane Society has now purchased a doggie wheelchair using donations from the community. It took Forrest just a short time to get adjusted with his new wheels.

"Once he saw that he could move forward on it, it's been super simple," said Crafton. "He can turn side to side."

Forrest is able to walk on his own and is ready to be adopted along with his new wheels.

"He actually looks proud to be a dog again," said Crafton.

Crafton said Forrest is good with children, other dogs and even cats.

For more information on adopting Forrest, or how you can become a foster family for an animal in need, call 268-PETS.
