Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - Each flu season, up to 200,000 people are hospitalized with the virus and this years flu strain is packing quite a punch.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention it's officially flu season.

Some schools in Tennessee and Michigan have already canceled classes because of widespread illness.

Experts say the last time they saw this many patients visiting doctors for the flu was back in 2004, and nearly every state has reported some flu activity.

Doctors say the flu survives best when the air is dry or when you get together with family over the holidays.

It can spread very quickly in your house as the average adult touches about 30 objects each minute, and experts say the flu virus could live on every single one of them.
