LONDON, Ohio (WDTN) - 2 News has just learned that Roger Dean Gillispie was released from prison Thursday evening.

A judge ordered his release from the London Correctional Institution Thursday.

Gillispie spent 20-years in prison after being convicted of three rapes in 1988.  He was sentenced to 22-56 years in prison in 1991.

A magistrate overturned those convictions last week and ordered that he be retried or let go.

2 News' Mark Allan had the first interview with Gillispie after hearing the magistrate's ruling.

"People do not understand what freedom is until it is taken away from them," said Roger Dean Gillispie.  "I can tell you what it means to have freedom.  I know what it is about.  It is the greatest thing in the world to have freedom."

Gillispie will be held under house arrest reportedly at his mother's home in Fairborn.

The state must decide by July 1, 2012 whether to retry Gillispe on rape charges or release him for good.
