DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Local families got their Passport to Kindergarten Wednesday evening at Fifth-Third Field.

The program helps them prepare their children for school.

It's part of an initiative sponsored by PNC Bank.

"We've found through building their vocabulay and getting them ready to learn to read, they have a better success of completing school and going on to some level of secondary education," said David Melin, PNC Bank.

Families were given passports where they can collect stamps as they attend family events, read with their children at home and attend library story times.

About 300 children from across Montgomery County participate.
