Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - The future of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) could rest upon the shoulders of our regions educational institutions.

According to officials who are charged with landing one of the six highly coveted UAS test sites here, they tell  me that this global technology could sustain the Dayton region for many years to come.

Joe Zeis, from the Dayton Development Coalition told me in an exclusive interview that one of the main reasons that makes our region so attractive is the tremendous workforce at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

He says inside and outside the gates, teams of engineers have the capabilities already to not only design, build and fly UAS's, but to also capture data and communicate it through-out the world.

Another key component is the association our military has with our local Colleges and Universities who are working now to train the work force to drive these UAS programs effectively and efficiently into the future.

Tonight on 2 NEWS beginning at 5:00, Dan Edwards will take a closer look at how our local educational institutions could be the key to landing an industry that is estimated will generate over 100 billion dollars in the next 20 years.
