Duplex fire labeled "suspicious"

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Officials are calling a fire that broke out in an East Dayton duplex "suspicious."

Crews were dispatched to 44 Samuel Avenue early Sunday morning.

Firefighters said the blaze started in the back of the structure and then spread to the attic.

Crews said both sides of the duplex were occupied, but only one person was home at the time the fire started.

Police responded to a call from one of the residents earlier Sunday morning when she said she had been fire bombed around 1:30 a.m. The resident stated someone threw a Molotov cocktail against the back of here house. 

Officials stated the cause of the fire is unclear.

An arson investigator was called to investigate.

Fire crews said there was heavy damage to the interior of the duplex.

No one was inured. The Red Cross is offering assistance.
