VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - A driver had to be extricated from his SUV after he lost control, and hit a tree early Sunday morning.

According to officials, the driver was traveling northbound on North Dixie Drive when he lost control, struck the curb in the median, veered off the road, and smashed into a tree shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver was trapped behind the wheel and it took a while for firefighters to pull him from the vehicle.

Officials stated the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and had facial injuries from the accident. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital but is expected to recover.

Authorities said they recovered alcohol from the vehicle, and they are investigating alcohol as the potential cause of the crash.

The driver could face possible charges of OVI, failure to control, and a seatbelt citation.
