DP&L warns business customers of scam

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton Power & Light is warning its business customers about a new scam.

DP&L says several customers have been contacted and told they may be able to receive a refund on their bills after a meter audit.

The scammers say they work for DP&L, but that is not the case.

If they get their hands on your utility bill, they could switch you to another electricity provider without permission.

The scam was first reported along the east coast in August and has now moved to our area.

Call the DP&L Business Solutions Center at 800-253-5801 if you think you're a victim.

And, remember what the Better Business Bureau says. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If someone contacts you and offers to refund your utility bill after you provide your bill or other personal or financial information, it is a scam.

The purpose could be to switch your provider without your authorization or to steal your identity or possibly deduct money from your bank account.
