WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Area pools usually close to human swimmers after Labor Day, but one West Carrollton pool has opted to stay open for the dogs.

West Carrollton’s fifth-annual Doggie Dive will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, at Wilson Pool on Elm Street.

Admission to the event is $5 per family and a portion of the proceeds will benefit seven local dog rescue organizations including: the Greater Dayton Humane Society, Luv4k9s, Ohio Pug Rescue, Robyn’s Nest, SISCA, Sheltered Paws, and Team Greyhound. The city has donated $7,139 from the event during the past four years.

The first 100 dogs will receive a free goody bag. In addition to swimming, there will be dog contests and activities. The schedule of events includes: Noon Pet & Owner Look-a-Like contest; 12:15 p.m. Ugliest Dog contest; 12:30 p.m. Stupid Pet Tricks; 1:30 p.m. Adoptable Mutt Strut; 2:15 p.m. Tennis Ball Bobbing; 2:50 p.m.

Several dog rescue organizations will showcase dogs that are available for adoption.  There will also be concessions available, as well as several pet-related service vendors on display.  Owners should bring their dogs on non-retractable leashes and leave dogs-in-heat at home.

Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital and PetSmart are the co-sponsors for this year’s event.
