VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - A suspect is in custody after deputies searched a Vandalia hotel room Saturday night and discovered over $20,000 worth of drugs.

Darryl Martin was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on drug trafficking charges after 10 p.m. Saturday.

According to officials, the investigation began when the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office K-9 tried to stop Martin on Miller Lane for a traffic offense.

Martin ran then from deputies, but officers later located him. Officers stated he tried to hide a large amount of heroin from officials.

The Montgomery County R.A.N.G.E. Task Force served a narcotics search warrant at The Hawthorn Suites at 7070 Poe Avenue where Martin was staying.

In the hotel room, deputies found several ounces of crack cocaine, heroin, a stolen handgun, and a large amount of cash.

Martin was taken into custody and booked into jail.

The Montgomery County Prosecutors Office will review the charges.
