Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - According to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Jan. 18, 2013 is the last day Ohioans can file a claim for foreclosure help with the National Mortgage Settlement Administrator.

In Feb. 2012, 49 states and the US government announced the National Mortgage Settlement with the nation's five largest mortgage servicers: GMAC (now Ally), Bank of America, CitiMortgage, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo.

To be eligible, the borrower had to have a mortgage loan secured by an owner-occupied, one-to-four unit residential property between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2011.

Borrowers' mortgage had to be serviced by one of the five banks mentioned and made at least three mortgage loan payments.

The borrower's loan can not exceed the GSE loan limits.

Payouts were estimated to be around $840, but due a smaller number of claimants, the estimated compensation could be as much as $1,400 according to Ohio Attorney General, Mike  DeWine.

The administrator has sent out mailings to eligible borrowers, 58 percent of Ohioans have already filed a claim.
