DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Dayton Chapter of the American Red Cross is mobilizing supplies and volunteers as Sandy makes its way up the coast.

The Dayton Chapter deployed its Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) at 10 a.m. Saturday, heading towards New Jersey. Volunteers have also been sent to New Jersey ready to help with feeding, distribution, recovery, and cleanup efforts.

“Situations like these remind us of how important it is to be prepared at all times,” said Fran O’Shaughnessy, Director of Emergency Services. “The Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region is prepared and willing to send more volunteers as the storm dictates.”

Across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the Red Cross is moving disaster workers into areas that weather experts say will be affected by the storm. The Red Cross has more than 100 emergency response vehicles on alert.

To help people affected by disasters like hurricanes, as well as countless crises at home and around the world, you can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Visit www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to the Dayton Chapter of the American Red Cross at 370 W. First Street, Dayton, OH 45402.
