Dayton racino applies for license

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton’s planned racino is one step closer to reality as it’s parent company announced it has filed for the licenses necessary to move existing tracks to Dayton and Austintown, Ohio.

Penn National Gaming, Inc. filed Friday for Video Lottery Sales Agent licenses for the two tracks as part of it’s plan to open a $125 million racetrack and video lottery terminal facilities in Dayton.

“Filing for VLT licenses and formally requesting that the Racing Commission approve our relocation plans is another major step forward for these two significant economic development projects,” said Tim Wilmott, President and COO of Penn National Gaming. “We are hopeful we can receive state approval in a timely manner, allowing us to break ground this fall on the new facilities in the Mahoning Valley and in Dayton.”

Beyond the gaming, bars and restaurants, the project calls for creating up to 1,000 direct and indirect jobs as well as 1,000 construction jobs.

Penn National plans to move Raceway Park from Toledo to Dayton after the opening of a full fledged casino in Toledo earlier this year.

The new facility, named Hollywood Slots at Dayton Raceway. will be built on the sight of the old Delphi Automotive plant near Wagner Ford and Needmore roads in North Dayton.
