KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton man was arrested in Kettering on New Year's Day on several charges, including child endangering, after running from the police.

A Kettering officer attempted to stop a car on Croftshire Road at 4:45 p.m. for speeding. According to to Officer Ronald Roberts, 27-year-old Jeffrey E. Williams refused to stop. After a short chase, Roberts said Williams bailed out of his car on Hastings Drive and ran into the neighborhood.

That's when officers found a five-year-old child in a car seat, in the back seat of the car. The child was unharmed and returned to a family member.

Police later found Williams at King's Point Pub on Wilmington Pike where he was arrested without incident. The owner of  King's Point Pub told 2 NEWS that Wiliams was not a patron, and had entered the his business in an effort to evade the police.

Williams is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, endangering children and the four outstanding warrants for forgery, breaking and entering, probation violation and driving under suspension.

Formal charges are pending with the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
