Dayton approves 2 new police canines

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Dayton City Commission approved the purchase of two new police dogs for the Dayton force.
The newly "hired" dogs will bring the canine unit back to full strength.
The canine unit usually has five dogs, but a retirement and a death made the new appointments necessary.
"It's a great asset for the Dayton Police Department because it basically supports or supplements police officers work by assisting them by locating suspects, looking for bad guys that could hurt police officers or citizens for that matter," said Asst. Chief Bob Chabali, Dayton Police Department.
Money seized during crimes will be used to pay for the dogs.
Officers have already started training the dog.
It will take 16 weeks until they are ready to hit the streets.
