DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - As temperatures drop into the low 40's Tuesday night in the Dayton region, turning on that furnace for the first time after months of inactivity could create a shock for homeowners heating systems.
With this in mind, 2 NEWS caught up with the lead technician at McAfee heating and air making a routine check-up at a home on Manner Lane in Washington Township.
Probably the biggest thing McAfee gets is a number of calls in the winter months from folks when their furnaces malfunction. Many opt for the motto if its not broke, don't fix it, and that's a big mistake," said technician Chris Bryant.
Bryant recommended homeowners change their filters every month. He also suggested planning a preseason checkup before cranking on the heat.
It's suggested homeowners have a carbon monoxide detector, as well as a smoke detector on each level of your home, said Bryant.
