SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A candlelight vigil was held in honor of a Springfield girl who was fatally struck by an SUV on Sunday.
Family and friends gathered at the intersection of North Murray Street and Chestnut Avenue to remember Kayla Mongold, 12, of Springfield, on Monday evening.
During the memorial service, loved ones placed stuffed animals, flowers, pictures and other tokens of remembrance on a makeshift memorial marking where Mongold lost her life.
Mongold was walking in the grass when police said Joseph Thomson lost control of his SUV and hit her. Mongold was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members are still finalizing funeral arrangements.
Donations can be made to the Kayla Mongold Fund at any Wright Patt Credit Union to help offset funeral costs.
