DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton City Commissioners approved $1.6 million to improve the airports lighting systems in the weekly meeting Oct. 24.
"What's good about this program is a lot of this equipment is 20 or 30 years old and this is going to provide new state-of-the-art equipment which will make the airfield a lot safer," said Director of Aviation, Terry Slaybaugh.
Slaybaugh said 90 percent of the funding comes from federal grants with the rest paid for by matching funds from the city. He said by using LED lighting where it's possible, the airport will save money on energy and utility costs. Costs that Slaybaugh said can be passed onto the airlines, making Dayton International more attractive to carriers and customers.
