DAYTON (WDTN) - An 11-year old boy is facing some serious charges, accused of attempting to carjack a Dayton man at gunpoint.
The incident happened Tuesday on the city's east side as the victim, Dan Barlow, was taking out his trash.
"They started saying "hey, do you have some change?" recalled Barlow. He said he told the 11 year-old suspect and his two 14 year-old accomplices that he didn't have any money. At that point, Barlow said they asked him about the time.
When Barlow turned around the 11 year-old had pulled a gun and demanded he hand over his wallet. "I told him he couldn't have it because they're was nothing in it. Then he wanted my car keys".
Barlow said the young suspects started shouting profanity but, he didn't cave.
Apparently frustrated, the three suspects walked away while Barlow followed closely behind, hiding behind garbage cans and calling 911.
Dayton Police caught up to the juveniles and placed them all under arrest.
Since then, 2 NEWS has learned the 11 year-old gunman has a lengthy criminal record, including theft and burglary.
That is why Barlow is sticking to his original advice.
"I told him to stop robbing the poor and to go find Jesus," said Barlow. "If the Lord can save me, the Lord can save anyone. I know he has a history, but the Lord can work in his heart and I just pray that it happens".
At last check, the three suspects remained at the Juvenile Justice Center.
They are all charged with aggravated robbery and attempted grand theft auto. In addition, the 11 year-old also faces a weapons charge.
