RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) - The 11-year-old Riverside girl who said two men tried to kidnap her has admitted she lied and the incident never happened.

The girl told police Sunday she was at one of the city parks when two men pulled up in a green Jeep and tried to get her in their car.

"She seemed very believable and there's no doubt, I believe, that this did occur," added Deputy Chief Brown said at the time.

Brown told 2 NEWS that even though this story turned out to be not true, he has responsibility to investigate the reports as a fact.

The girl admitted Monday night she fabricated the story. Brown did not say why.
