Brandt asks for new public defender

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The man accused of sexually assaulting his adopted sons was in court Monday in Miami County asking for his attorney to be fired.

"I have a public defender in Montgomery County and who has done some other things that has not been done in this county, Miami County. I just feel if you know, he is what you say he is, he could at least do as much as what's been done in Montgomery County," said

Kenneth Brandt is charged with 31 counts of rape in Miami County and seven other charges in Montgomery County.

Investigators say Brandt adopted three boys from Texas and then solicited two men to have sex with one of the children.

Brandt asked for a new public defender which the judge denied.

"A disagreement over trial tactics, or strategy, that's not a grounds for removing counsel, hostility or personal conflicts, that doesn't constitute a breakdown of communications," said Judge Robert Lindeman.

The judge did agree to delay the beginning of Brandt's trial and says he will likely set a new date for the end of July or early August.

Brandt also brought up concerns about media coverage, but the judge assured him he would get a fair trial.
