CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The Centerville community is trying to take a tragic situation and turn it into something that could save lives in the future.

It held an impromptu blood drive Friday at Centerville High School. It was historic, in fact, this being called the fasted the Community Blood Center has ever set up a drive.

People were happy to lend an arm in response to a fatal crash that killed 19-year old Mitchell Haber and severely injured 19-year old Alex Lovett. Both are Centerville grads.

Haber's funeral was Friday while Lovett remains in critical condition.

The school and students wanted to do something in honor of the two and figured giving blood was the best way to help.

"We rely on volunteer blood donors. We need 350 people to donate blood everyday to keep up with the need at local hospitals," said Tracy Morgan, Community Blood Center.

"We're all sticking together and helping each other out and bringing smiles to whoever needs them," said Jon Wesney, Centerville HS Principal.

If you would like to donate blood, call the Community Blood Center at 1-800-388-4483.
