DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Tipp City man is the proud new owner of a Ford Focus.  What's so special about that, you ask?

He won it, partly by donating blood at the Dayton Community Blood Center, but also with a little luck.

Norman Elser was one of nearly 26,000 people to enter a contest called "iFocus on Saving Lives".

He was randomly chosen as one of ten finalists.  The finalists opened their lucky tickets Thursday and it was Elser who came out with a new car.

“I never win anything,” he said. “I won a baseball in a pie-eating contest when I was boy growing up in Northwest Ohio," said Elser.  "I don’t play the lottery.  I was surprised to even be a finalist.”

Norman's wife was counting on victory seeing as their car is a 2002 model with 212,000 miles on it.

Elser is retired from the FAA inflight service station at the Dayton Airport and served as a volunteer with Honor Flight.  He’s a Navy veteran from the Vietnam era and a life-long blood donor.

The other nine finalists received $50 gas cards.
