Battling Bullying in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Through tears, 13-year-old Paul Hauan's mother Lisa Noland thanked everyone who participated in Saturday's Poker Run at Double Deuce's in Dayton. The fundraiser was held to remember her son who committed suicide in May.

"I love him and miss him and that I wish this wouldn't have happened. We all love him so much," explains Noland.

She says Paul's life was full of promise. He was a straight-A student at Mad River Middle School.

"He was very intelligent, smart and he liked computers. He was very smart with all that stuff. He loved to tell jokes to make people laugh," comments Noland.

Jim Shearer is the father of three girls; he helped organize the fundraiser and has a message for other parents.

"When you're raising your kids, make sure that you enforce in them that just because somebody is different than you, doesn't make them wrong and please make sure that they understand that picking on a smaller kid is not the way to be," says Shearer.

Noland hopes her son's death will shed some light on the tragic consequences of bullying.

"Even though my son has died, that maybe this will save another child's life and maybe people will learn to be nicer to one another," explains Noland.

The money raised will go to Paul's family as well as charity.
