Another day in the deep freeze

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The coldest air of the season keeps its grip on the area for the next several days, and Storm Team 2 Meteorologist, Jamie Jarosik says we could also see some snow moving in to the region, with the high Wednesday of 18 and 20 degrees on Thursday.

The snow won't be anything like the blizzard we saw just weeks ago, but it was light snow that caused a major accident along I-75 Monday afternoon in Middletown. Officials say sudden white out conditions caused a pile up involving at least 50 vehicles.

When the temperatures are this cold, you also want to keep a close watch on the water pipes at your home.

Experts say to avoid having your pipes freeze and burst, you should let a trickle of water drip from each faucet overnight and open cabinet doors to expose pipes to warmer temperatures circulating in the house.

And, don't forget your pets.  The ASPCA offers these safety tips:

  • Make sure you keep a full-coat of fur on your pet.  Don't shave them during the winter months to help keep them warm.  Also, you might consider a sweater like cover your pet can wear outside.
  • Make sure your pet has a warm, dry place to sleep.  Consider letting the animal inside in these frigid conditions.
  • Be sure to keep your pet's fur dry at all time
