Allison Wyatt: 'a kind-hearted girl'

MIAMI TWP, Ohio (AP/WDTN) - As more and more stories about the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting rampage emerge, one has poignant meaning for the Miami Valley community.

Allison Wyatt was one of the first graders killed by a lone gunman inside her elementary school on Friday, December 14.  She and 25 others died that day.

Allison's grandparents are from our area.  They attend church at St. Henry Catholic Church on Springboro Pike in Miami Township.

The Associated Press reports that Allison was a "kind-hearted girl who formed special bonds with almost everyone she met.  She'd surprise her family with her random acts of kindness - once even offering her snacks to a stranger on a plane, her family recalled."

The AP goes on to say how Allison loved her teachers and her family.  She could make her parents laugh so hard that they would cry.  She loved art and her drawings were taped to the walls of her home.

"Allison made the world a better place for six, far too short, years and we now have to figure out how to move on without her," her family said in a statement. "She was a sweet, creative, funny, intelligent little girl who had an amazing life ahead of her. Our world is a lot darker now that she's gone. We love and miss her so much."

A memorial fund has been created in memory of Allison Wyatt.  You can make checks payable to the Allison Wyatt Memorial Fund.  Send it to:
